It's not every day you turn 150.
For the City of Lockport, that day is April 11. And on that day, Lockport's Historic Palace Theatre is planning a day full of events to celebrate the city's sesquicentennial. But that's just the beginning.
From June 27 through July 5, the Lock City is planning to hold 150 different events in celebration of the city's 150th birthday. The week will kick off with the annual Lockport Arts & Crafts Festival on June 27 and 28 and it will conclude with three days of major events: a parade on July 3 with an anticipated 150 participating groups, the annual July 4th fireworks, and the annual Taste of Lockport, which the Lockport Business Association is moving from August to coincide with the week-long celebration.
In between the weekends' events will be smaller scale events being put together by a recently formed sesquicentennial committee comprised of people inside and outside City Hall. The committee will announce more events as they are planned.
