BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Lightning took turns scoring at First Niagara Center Friday night with the Lightning scoring the third — and winning — goal in the third period.

Tampa outshot the Sabres 47-21 en route to the 2-1 win.

Valtteri Filppula kicked off the scoring for the lighting at 3:51 of the first period, assisted by Ryan Callahan and Cedric Paquette.

Cody McCormick tied the game for Buffalo 50 seconds into the second period. Patrick Kaleta tallied the assist on the tying goal.

In the third period, Steven Stamkos put the Lightning ahead for good at 14:42, assisted by Jonathan Drouin and Alex Killorn.

The Sabres, now 14-26-3, next play Tuesday when the Detroit Red Wings play the Sabres at First Niagara Center. The game will be preceded by the retirement of Dominik Hasek's jersey.
