The food selection at the new store far surpasses what the previous store
was allowed to offer.
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — It's bigger and brighter. It has more selection and food. And it's open to the public Wednesday morning.

Following numerous court battles and seagull squatters, the decade-long plan to open a Super Walmart on the site of the former Lockport Mall will finally reach fruition following a 7 a.m. grand opening ceremony.

This afternoon, store employees and vendors were putting the finishing touches on the store that will carry everything from apples to Ziplock bags, tires and phones, cookie cakes and big screen TVs.

The new store sports a Subway Restaurant, a deli and bakery in addition to all the products available at what will immediately be known as "the old Walmart," which sits less than half a mile south. The old site was limited in space and was locked into an agreement that prevented from carrying many foods.

Wider aisles is one of the features of the new store.
The new store will be open 24 hours a day with select departments open limited hours; The pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The auto care center will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The photo lab will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. And the optical center will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The new store will employ about 300 people, nearly 50 percent more than the old store did. The future of the old store has not yet been determined.

There's more photos of the interior of the new store here.
