ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Lockport police were searching Sunday morning for the suspect in Saturday night’s robbery-at-knifepoint from the South Transit Street Sunoco station when they found a suspicious male in a hooded sweatshirt at Cottage and Genesee streets.
Police say the male “saw the patrol car and into 80 Genesee St. Patrol located the male inside the building.”
The male was identifed as Zachary Smith, 23, 1570 Buffalo Ave., Lower Apt., Niagara Falls, although he had given police a different name. Smith had a warrant for his arrest, which is why he gave the false name. He was charged with criminal impersonation.
Smith was taken to Niagara County Jail and held on the original warrant. He was due in City Court Monday morning.
Police do not believe he was involved in the gas station robbery.
