The Buffalo Sabres dropped their sixth consecutive game tonight, losing 5-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes. After an impressive string of wins in late November and early December, the team has dropped 10 of its last 11 games.

Carolina waited until the second period tonight to score its first goal at 4:52. Jeff Skinner got the goal, assisted by Alexander Semin and Ryan Murphy. Buffalo tied it just nine seconds later with a goal by Philip Varone, assisted by Chris Stewart. Carolina re-took the lead at 13:50 on the power play. Jiri Tlusty got the goal, assisted by former Sabre Nathan Gerbe and Justin Faulk. Eric Staal made it 3-1 at 14:43, assisted by Ryan Murphy and John-Michael Liles. Victor Rask put the Hurricanes up 4-1 at 15:09, assisted by Ron Hainsey.

The Sabres got back into the game at 8:17 with a goal by Philip Varone, assisted by Tyson Strachan and Mike Weber. Riley Nash closed out the scoring for Carolina at 10:10, assisted by Faulk and Tlusty.

The Sabres play the Lightning in Tampa Friday night before returning home to play the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, a game which will see the team retire former goaltender Dominik Hasek's jersey.
