Twenty-two people were charged with driving while intoxicated during a special holiday enforcement by Niagara County police agencies, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced today.

From Dec. 12 through Jan. 1, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Lockport Police Department, Middleport Police Department Somerset Police Department, New York State Police, Niagara Falls Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department, Lewiston Police Department and Town of Niagara Police Department all participated in the "Holiday DWI Crackdown Enforcement."

All agencies involved increased patrol units and specifically designated them for DWI enforcement. In addition to the 22 DWI arrests, there were also an additional 57 arrests and issued approximately 625 traffic tickets.

Future "crackdown" periods are already scheduled in 2015 with all agencies being involved, according to NCSO.
