ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
NEWFANE — A 39-year-old Newfane man was charged late Monday night with drug possession after a traffic stop on South Main Street.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Francis X. Dinino Jr., 5952 Van Horn St., was seen driving on South Main Street without his headlights on around 9:54 p.m. Monday. When Dinino saw the marked Niagara County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle, he quickly turned on his headlights before being stopped by patrol.
While interviewing Dinino, patrol could smell a strong odor of unburnt marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle, the report said. After a brief interview by patrol, Dinino handed over a small bag containing marijuana, saying it was all he had. When patrol asked him to step out of the vehicle for a pat down, Dinino “reached into his pant pocket and he stated ‘I have another bag of pot in my pocket,’ “ the report said.
NCSO confiscated both bags of pot and gave Dinino an appearance ticket for the marijuana and a traffic ticket for failure to use headlights. He is to return to the Town of Newfane Court on March 3.
