ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The run, which starts on Market Street near Widewaters is a 12.5 mile course, run out to Middleport and back — twice for those who choose the 50-mile race, which 47 chose to do. One-hundred mile runners — of which there are 56 this year — run the track four times. There are also 21 who chose a shortened 25-mile version.
Due to the risk of long runs, all 100-mile runners must have previously participated in the 50-mile version. There are also three first-aid stations located along the route.
Event organizers say the run isn't actually a race at all, but rather a "semi-annual family reunion for ultra runners."
Today marks the sixth winter Beast of Burden run. There is also a summer version, which will hold its sixth race later this year.
Runners will be seen along and near the canal through early morning.
There's more photos from the race here. (link)
