The Lockport Express went into New Jersey this weekend win one goal: To hand the undefeated Jersey Shore Wildcats their first loss of the season.
Friday night the Jersey team put that off for at least a day, beating the Express 5-2.
The Express kept it close through two periods but Jersey Shore pulled away in the end, scoring three in the third for the win.
Jersey Shore started the scoring at 2:34 of the first period. The Konstantin Mamedov goal was assisted by Antoine Gagne. Lockport tied it up at 11:30 with a power play goal by Dillon Hayes assisted by Christian Whitcomb. The Wildcats re-took the lead at 18:45 on a Travis Valvo goal. Ilya Spektor assisted.
Following a scoreless second, Jersey took a 3-1 lead at 2:53 when Valvo scored again, assisted by Spektor and Jiri Haida. The resilient Express made it 3-2 at 8:21. Daniel Golba got the goal, assisted by Hayes and Jeff Avolio. As the clock ticked down, though, Jersey added two more, the first at 16:49 by Alexandre Racicot (assisted by Adam Skutchan) and the last by Spektor, a shorthanded effort assisted by Frederic Ampleman and Alexander Tan at 17:19.
The win gives Jersey Shore 34 on the season — and still zero losses. Lockport is now 20-7-1.
The two teams face off again at 6 p.m.
