TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Pennsylvania Avenue man who allegedly stole Pizza Logs from Tops gave store security the slip twice and injured the store manager before being arrested, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

An NCSO report says that Donald M. Shaw, 40, 26 Pennsylvania Ave., concealed two boxes of Pizza Logs in his coat around 9:30 p.m. Monday. While he was walking out of the store, he was confronted by the store's loss prevention officer.

"The suspect took the pizza logs out of his coat and placed them on a table nearby. The suspect then ran out of the store," the report says.

The loss prevention officer pursued the Shaw and a physical altercation ensued. The manager of the store assisted in apprehending Shaw until Police could arrive. After the employees had the suspect under control, they began walking back inside the store when Shaw reportedly fled again.

"During the altercation the suspect threw a metal sign at (the store manager), causing a minor laceration on his hand," the NCSO report says, adding, "The loss prevention associate ... was punched in the face by the suspect, causing soreness to his cheek bone."

When patrol arrived, Shaw was detained without incident. He admitted to stealing the Pizza Logs but told patrol he didn't intentionally hurt anyone.

He was taken to Niagara County Jail and held on $500 bail. He was to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday to be arraigned on the charges of petit larceny and two counts of second-degree harassment. The one count of harassment may be elevated to third-degree assault, pending the medical records of the loss prevention employee.
