Five people were charged with DWI across Niagara County during the Thanksgiving weekend, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
From Nov. 26 through Nov. 30, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Niagara Falls Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department, New York State Park Police, Lockport Police Department, Middleport Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, Town of Niagara Police Department, Somerset Police Department, and Youngstown Police Department all participated in the "Thanksgiving DWI Crackdown Enforcement."
All agencies involved utilized increased patrol units that were specifically designated for DWI enforcement. Five people across Niagara County were arrested during this time frame for driving while intoxicated. These extra patrol units also had an additional 20 arrests and issued approximately 160 traffic tickets.
Future "crackdown" periods are scheduled before the end of the year with all agencies being involved.
