BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Jerry D’Amigo from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Luke Adam, the team announced Tuesday.

D’Amigo (5’11”, 205 lbs., 2/19/91) will join the Sabres’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He had been acquired by Columbus in July and has appeared in 28 games this season for the club’s AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, tallying seven points (3+4) and 26 penalty minutes.

Prior to joining the Columbus organization, D’Amigo spent four seasons with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) and recorded 118 points (57+61) in 240 regular-season games, adding 36 points (15+21) in 40 career AHL postseason contests. A 2009 sixth-round Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick (158th overall), the forward made his first NHL appearance in 2013-14 with the Maple Leafs, logging three points (1+2) in 22 NHL games.

The Binghamton native played for Team USA at the World Junior Championship in 2010 and 2011, helping the United States win gold in 2010 and a bronze medal in 2011. He also played for the U.S. National U-18 Team for three seasons and was the team’s scoring leader in 2008-09.

“We feel that this was a good deal that gave both teams a player they were looking for,” said Sabres General Manager Tim Murray. “Jerry brings a tremendous work ethic to our organization and we know he’ll have an immediate impact with the Amerks. Luke has been a steady force for our clubs since he was drafted in 2008 and we wish him luck as he joins the Blue Jackets’ organization.”

Monday, the Sabres had recalled forward Mikhail Grigorenko from the Americans, inviting him to join the Sabres for the first time the season. He played 16:22 Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets and was a -1 for the night. This morning, the team sent him back to Rochester, where he is currently tied for second on the Amerks with seven goals in 2014-15 and has tallied 19 points (7+12) in 27 games played. In 43 NHL games played with the Sabres through parts of two seasons, he has recorded eight points (3+5).

Drafted by the Sabres in the first round (12th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Grigorenko (5/16/94, 6'3", 211 lbs), signed an entry-level contract with the club in July 2012. The Khabarovsk, Russia native has also played parts of three seasons (2011-12 – 2013-14) for the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.
