SUNRISE, Fla. — The Buffalo Sabres went south for the weekend.
After a 5-0 shellacking Thursday against the Tampa Lightning, the Blue & Gold were hoping to rebound against the Florida Panthers Saturday. But it wasn't to be.
Florida got the scoring started at 13:05 of the first with a Brad Boyes goal, assisted by Jussi Jokinen and Aaron Ekblad.
The Sabres came back in the second with a Drew Stafford goal at 11:02, assisted by Cody Hodgson and Josh Gorges. But the Panthers pounced back at 12:55 with a Tomas Kopecky goal, assisted by Aaron Ekblad and Nick Bjugstad. Unflapped the Sabres tied it up again at 15:54. Brian Gionta scored from Mike Weber and Torrey Mitchell, knotting the game at 2. With just 17 seconds remaining in the period, though, Nick Bjugstad made it 3-2 Florida, assisted by Aaron Ekblad and Tomas Fleischmann.
With no scoring in the third, 3-2 was the final.
The Sabres next play at home on Tuesday vs. the L.A. Kings.
