BUFFALO — After falling behind 1-0, the Buffalo Sabres came back to tie the Tampa Lightning tonight and then beat the second best team in the league in a shootout.
Scoreless into the third period, Ondrej Palat scored on Sabres netminder Jhonas Enroth, assisted by Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov at 9:52. Sabres' Zemgus Girgensons tied the game at 16:06, assisted by Tyler Myers and Josh Gorges at 16:06, where the game stayed through the end of the third and a 5 minute overtime period.
In the shootout, the Sabres secured the win with goals by their first two shooters, Cody Hodson and Tyler Ennis. Tampa's Ondrej Palat and Ryan Callahan both missed against Enroth.
With the win, the Sabres improved their record to 9-14-2, good for 20 points and 26th place in the league.
The Sabres and Lightning face off again on Thursday in Tampa.
