Vecheslav Moroz
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 47-year-old Amherst man was charged with DWI Sunday following a two-car personal injury crash on South Transit Road at Tonawanda Creek.

New York State Police say Vecheslav Moroz was driving a 2004 black Lexus on South Transit Road, when following too closely, he struck the rear a 2003 red Oldsmobile operated by Bernard Daley, age 60 of Ocala, Fla. Daley and his passenger Mary Daley were transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport by Rapids Fire as a precaution and later released. Moroz was uninjured.

During the interviewing process, Troopers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Moroz; breath. Standard field sobriety tests were performed, which Moroz subsequently failed and he was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Lockport troopers' barracks for processing.

Moroz submitted to a breath test which reported a .18 percent blood alcohol content, twice over the legal limit. Moroz was issued citations for aggravated DWI, following too closely, moving from lane unsafely, and failure to use designated lane.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
