NEWFANE — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office charged a Wilson man with DWI following a reckless driver complaint.
According to the arrest report, a caller had seen 61-year-old Russell D. Thomas, 4607 Lake Road, Wilson, perform a "burn out," blowing one of his tires on the Lake Road bridge just west of Lockport Olcott Road around 1:04 a.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, patrol observed a green colored 2001 Honda Civic positioned on the north shoulder of the bridge. Patrol approached the vehicle and found Thomas attempting to change a blown out tire on the front passenger side.
Upon interviewing Thomas, patrol noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and other signs of intoxication. He was charged with driving while intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests.
He was transported to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office where he provided a breath sample which showed a 0.12 BAC. He was then remanded to the custody of the Niagara County Jail and held in lieu of $250 police bail.
He is scheduled to appear in the town of Newfane Court on Wednesday. His vehicle was secured by Jim's Auto and a mandatory 12-hour hold was set in place.
