BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres had the lead twice tonight against the Edmonton Oilers, but didn't have it when it counted — the final buzzer.
The Sabres took 31 shots on goal. They also allowed 52 shots — 49 of which Michal Neuvirth stopped in the 3-2 loss.
Matt Moulson scored his first goal of the season just 26 seconds into the second period, putting the Sabres up 1-0. Brian Gionta and Zemgus Girgensons got the assists. Less than a minute later, though — at 1:20 — Iiro Pakarinen tied it up for Edmonton, assisted by Mark Fayne and Teddy Purcell.
Drew Stafford scored 6:34 into the third, assisted by Nicolas Deslauriers and Rasmus Ristolainen. Edmonton tied it up at 11:42 with a goal by Mark Arcobello, assisted by David Perron and Nail Yakupov. Then at 15:45, Boyd Gordon scored the game winner for the Oilers, assisted by Purcell and Matt Hendricks.
The Sabres play again Saturday night, hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m. at First Niagara Center.
