ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
BUFFALO — It might not have been a win, but the Buffalo Sabres picked up a point tonight, losing a goaltender's battle to the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout.
After a scoreless first and second periods, Montreal got on the board first, a mere 19 seconds into the third with a goal by P.A. Parentau. Drew Stafford tied it for the Sabres less than three minutes later.
Sabres captain Brian Gionta scored in the first round of the shootout, but Alex Galchenyuk and Parentau responded in the bottom of the first and third rounds, respectively, to win it for Montreal. Parentau has three game-deciding shootout goals already this year.
The Sabres are now 2-2-2 over their past six games and have had back-to-back games go to the shootout. They came away with a victory in the skill competition on Sunday against Detroit, but they weren’t as fortunate against Montreal.
