NEWFANE — A Main Street woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies she had been receiving unwanted letters and collect phone calls from a New York State prisoner.

The woman told patrol that she had originally received a letter in early September from an Attica Correctional Facility inmate after she had appeared in a television commercial. The letter, marked with the inmate's name and ID number, said she was looking "hot" with "sex appeal." The letter goes on to state that the inmate is looking for a "nice lady friend to write."

The complainant told patrol that she does not know the inmate and did not invite any contact with him. She had contacted Attica to report the incident, and was instructed to send a letter to the facility instructing the prisoner to cease any further contact. She sent the letter, as instructed on Sept. 4, clearly spelling out that she wants no further contact from the inmate, by mail or phone, since he attempted "several" times to call collect at her place of business.

The woman said that she received a collect phone call on Oct. 23 and again called Attica to complain. She was then directed to send the letter she sent concerning ceasing contact again. Finally, on Thursday she received yet another phone call at her place of employment. This time, however, when she contacted the prison, she was told that the inmate had been moved to the Livingston County Correctional Facility and she would have to send a letter there asking him to cease contact.

Patrol secured copies of the letter the inmate sent the complainant, as well as the letter she sent to the Attica prison. Patrol is also making contact with the Livingston County Correctional Facility to advise them of the situation.
