ENP STAFF REPORTS

The National Weather Service is warning area residents to take extra care driving this evening due to an anticipated quick buildup of snow.

The weather service issued a "Special Weather Statement" to parts of Western New York, including all of East Niagara.

The statement says that "an area of snow will move in to the Niagara Frontier early this evening and bring a quick couple inches of snow to some locations."

The snow is expected to primarily affect the northtowns including Niagara Falls, Lockport and Medina, as well as the south shores of Lake Ontario.

"Expect brief periods of visibility below a half mile which will result in slick roadways and difficult travel," the statement says. "Snow should only last a couple hours (and) will limit accumulations to one to three inches in most areas."

The weather statement is in effect until 7:45 p.m.
