BUFFALO — Colton Baker-Durst, the victim of an early-morning Wednesday shooting remains in critical condition in Erie County Medical Center, Lockport Police Department officials have confirmed.
The 20-year-old Lockport man was shot three times in the back around 12:24 a.m. Wednesday and taken via Mercy Flight to ECMC where he has been listed in critical condition since.
There was some confusion this morning as the Niagara County Sheriff's Office "Mobile Patrol" or "Vine" app listed the charges of alleged shooter, Josiah J. Chandler, 18, 52 Genesee St., as "second-degree murder as a hate crime" instead of "second-degree attempted murder as a hate crime," suggesting that Baker-Durst had died. Police and hospital officials, however, confirmed this morning that he had not and that the charges listed on the app are incorrect.
Chandler is currently in Niagara County Jail, being held on $250,000 cash bail. He also is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in Lockport City Court on Monday.
