A 63-year-old woman was injured early this morning in an apartment fire at 6150 Ruhlman Road.
Deborah J. Spencer was transported to Erie County Medical Center by South Lockport ambulance after suffering facial burns in the fire, which was in an upstairs bedroom of the apartment. She had been using home oxygen at the time.
Phillip A. Kunes, 71, was also in the apartment, however he got out unharmed. Spencer was assisted out by a neighbor, Cory A. Page.
South Lockport Fire extinguished the fire and evacuated the heavy smoke from the apartment.
Niagara County Origin and Cause was called to the scene and the exact cause is under investigation.
There is no monetary estimate of damage at this time. Kunes was allowed by the fire company to return to the residence and the Town of Lockport Building Inspector will assess the damage later in the day, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
