ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
NEWFANE — A 27-year-old Newfane man was charged Monday with falsely reporting an incident after claiming that a man had send a threatening text message to him.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Brandon Pitts told patrol that a man had sent him a text message threatening to kill him. The man in question, however, had filed a report on Friday telling NCSO that Pitts was telling people he was threatening him when he was not. The text message Pitts showed patrol was sent on Monday.
Eventually, Pitts told patrol that he had sent the message to himself and wanted to report the message to make the other party look bad. Patrol then asked who would answer the phone if the number the message came from was dialed and Pitts stated it was his own phone.
He was taken into custody at 6:30 p.m. and charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident. He was transported to the Town of Newfane Court for arraignment and released on his own recognizance. He is slated to return to the Town of Newfane Court on Nov. 18.
