TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Strauss Road man was charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning when police found him driving on the shoulder of the road.
According to the arrest report, Kenneth J. Wilson, 29, 5791 Sweetwood Dr., Apt. F, was seen traveling northbound on South Transit Road around 2:22 a.m. He made a left turn onto Strauss Road without using a turning signal, then drove on the shoulder of the roadway for no apparent reason.
While being interviewed by the Niagara County Sheriff's deputy, Wilson said that he was driving from McDonald's to his residence on Sweetwood Drive, and that he was aware that his he was having issues with a light in the rear of his vehicle. He admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the day and was determined to be intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests.
An alcosensor test showed a positive reading for alcohol, but he refused to take the chemical breath test to determine his blood alcohol content.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving on the shoulder, and improper signal. He was remanded to the custody of the Niagara County Jail on $250 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
