news@eastniagarapost.com
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A traffic stop on Hinman Road resulted in a marijuana possession charge for a Lockport man Tuesday evening.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office report, patrol saw a silver Dodge Ram pickup with a broken tail light being driven by Benjamin K. Starcher, 26, 220 Niagara St., around 5:50 p.m. When the vehicle was pulled over, patrol could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from it.
Patrol asked Starcher how much marijuana was in the vehicle. He showed patrol a small plastic bag containing a green leafy substance which he stated was marijuana. He said that there was nothing else inside the vehicle. He later admitted that there was more marijuana inside the center console. Patrol did find a total of two plastic bags, both containing a green leafy substance which field tested positive for marijuana.
Starcher was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and given a traffic ticket for the broken light. He is due in Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday. The suspected marijuana was submitted to the NCSO lab for further testing.
