A Lockport man was charged Friday night with a Leandra's Law violation after the Niagara County Sheriff's Office says he crashed his car into a tree in front of DeSales Catholic School with his two childen in the car with him.
Patrol was called to the school, 6914 Chestnut Ridge Road, around 6:15 p.m., where they found that a vehicle driven by Daniel T. Jones, 40, had crossed onto the north shoulder of the road, according to a release from NCSO. The vehicle then abruptly accelerated in a southerly direction, crossed the eastbound lane and struck a tree in the front lawn of the school where it came to rest.
Jones had his two children in the car, ages 8 and 9, at the time of the accident. Mr. Jones was injured but refused medical treatment at the scene. His children were uninjured.
Jones was arrested for two counts of felony Leandra’s Law DWI, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, refusal to take a breath screening test, driving on the shoulder of the road, failing to keep right, and operating an uninspected motor vehicle. He was remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $750 pre-arraignment bail and is due in Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
