Following the announcement yesterday that the union membership of Lockport Local 963 unanimously rejected a retirement incentive offer from the city, the city's Fire Board has been called to an emergency meeting at 8 p.m.
Attempts to reach Mayor Anne McCaffrey for comment about the city's plan since the union rejected the offer have been unsuccessful. She was out of the office earlier this afternoon and has not yet returned a call seeking comment.
Earlier reports had said that if the union rejected the retirement buyout offer, as many as five members of the fire department would be laid off as early as next month.
