ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
SOMERSET — The owner of a Quaker Road restaurant told Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies that her son had been stealing cash from the register.
The woman said she had started to realize that money had been missing at the end of the night when the business closed and went back on her security system and watched video. She showed patrol four separate videos that all show her son, Drew Remington, stealing the red money bag from behind the cash register. Drew would grab the bag when no employee was looking and leave the area for a few minutes before returning the bag, according to the NCSO report.
The known larcenies occurred on Oct. 9, 10, 14 and 15. The total amount taken from those four days was approximately $1490. The owner said she believes there are probably other days when Remington stole money, but she only can confirm the four days so far.
Upon exiting the office, patrol observed Drew Remington sitting on top of a chest freezer in the kitchen. Patrol asked to speak with him and as he walked out the side door he stated "I think I know what this is about," according to the arrest report. Patrol asked him what he thought about seeing the patrol car in the parking lot when he arrived and he replied, "I kind of figured it was for me." When patrol asked why? he said "because I stole money from my parents."
Remington, 20, 1885 Pallister Ave., Barker, was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in Town of Somerset Court, where bail was set in the amount of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. He was then remanded to Niagara County Jail. He is due to return to court on Thursday.
