ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
HARTLAND — Boyer's Tavern, 8757 Ridge Road, sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage in an early morning fire.
The Niagara County Dispatch Center had received a 911 call at 2:51 a.m. reporting the fire. The Hartland Volunteer Fire Company, the Middleport Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene with the Middleport Police arriving first.
Middleport Police Officer Jeffrey Swick evacuated one resident from a house on the east side of the tavern.
The Barker Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the scene to assist in fighting the fire with the Middleport Volunteer Fire Company placed on standby.
Niagara County Cause and Origin and The Niagara County Crime Scene Identification Unit were called to the scene to determine cause of the fire and document the scene.
The owner of the business, James Boyer, told patrol that he and the bartender were the last occupants inside the building. He said he closed the business at approximately 1:30 a.m. and that no other person would have had access to the business after he closed.
There is no estimate of the damage amount at this time, but officials did state that the fire does not appear suspicious in nature and determined the origin of the fire began in the area of the kitchen, although the cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time and is still under investigation.
