Examples of two of the mini sculptures created by students in
the program.
The public is invited to the unveiling of two large-scale metal sculptures inspired by some of the 24 young participants in this summer’s Whimsical Sculpture Project at the Kenan Center, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

The sculptures will be mounted outside the main entrance doors of the  Kenan Center Arena. Introductions will be made prior to the unveiling by representatives of the Kenan Center Board of Governors as well as Zack Boehler of the Ashford Hollow Foundation who has acted as artist educator for the summer program for the past three years. A reception will follow in the arena.

The brightly colored, metallic sculptures contain images representing arts, sports, education, theater, and music. They also represent the community and how people of all ages come together at the Kenan Center. The sculptures were crafted by Boehler at Essex Street Arts Center in Buffalo, based on designs contributed by the students in the two-week summer program.

The large-scale sculptures will join four other standing sculptures located on the Kenan grounds that resulted from previous Whimsical Sculpture Projects, and which are part of the Kenan Center’s garden sculpture collection.
