NEWFANE — Niagara County Sheriff's deputies charged an Appleton man with unlawful possession of marijuana after a Monday afternoon traffic stop.
According to the report filed by NCSO, Andrew D. Swift, 18, 6799 Swigert Road, was stopped for having no rear-view mirror around 4:30 p.m. While interviewing Swift, patrol asked about the contents of a bag on his front seat.
"Patrol asked Swift what was inside of his book bag, which was sitting on the passenger side seat next to him, he replied 'just school books.' Patrol then asked Swift if he would open the book bag and he complied," according to the arrest report. "Patrol did not observe any books, but observed a tin box. Patrol then asked Swift to open the tin box. Inside the tin box contained a clear plastic bag of marijuana, a scale, and several marijuana smoking devices. There was approximately 12 grams of marijuana inside the clear plastic bag."
Swift was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Newfane Court on Sept. 23 for the marijuana and a traffic ticket for the missing mirror. The suspected marijuana secured into an NCSO property locker.
