Richard C. Burgess, passed away Sunday, August 24, at the age of 77. Born November 6, 1936 in Lyons, NY; the son of Robert and Anna Burgess of Albany, NY, he was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians, and worked for 33 years as an instrumental music teacher, mostly with North Park Junior and Middle School in Lockport.
He retired from teaching in 1992.
After his retirement, Richard remained an active member of the Eastern Niagara Retired Teachers Association and New York State’s Retired Teachers, and directed their scholarship fund for the past several years. Additionally, he was a true world traveler, and visited all seven continents, and hundreds of cities literally across the globe.
Richard had been an active member of the Lockport United Methodist Church for 48 years, where he sang in the Chancel choir. He also sang with Lock City Glee Club.
He served in the U.S Army at Fort Dix and Fort Benning, GA from 1961-1963.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kay Burgess; his sister, Ida May TenEyck (Alden); his daughter, Barbara (Jack Lefebvre) and son, Daniel (Anne); and his grandchildren, Bennett Lefebvre, Johnna Lefebvre, Madelyn Burgess, and Alexander Burgess.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, Aug. 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 28th at 10:30 AM in is scheduled at Lockport United Methodist Church, East Ave., Lockport.
