ENP STAFF REPORTS

This past weekend at Outwater Park, the Lockport Rampage claimed victory against the previously unbeaten Southern Tier Diesel, winning by a final score of 28-6.  With the win, the Rampage improve to 8-0 in the NFA (9-0 overall) and now sit on top of the NFA West as the only unbeaten team in the conference.  The Diesel fall to 7-1.

The Rampage scored points in every quarter and went up 28-0 before a 4th quarter score by the Diesel made it 28-6.  The Diesel had no answers for the Lockport running back stable, as the rushing attack racked up 224 yards on the ground and scored all of the Rampage offensive touchdowns.

Running back Tewaine Pannel lead the way with 13 rushes for 171 yards (13.15 yards per carry) and a touchdown. Derrick Adams added seven carries for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Terrence Owens added three carries for 15 yards and a touchdown (Owens also caught two passes for 28 yards). Quarterback Lamont Rhim added 111 yards through the air to give the Rampage over 300 yards of offense on the night. Chris Montgomery and Nick Peterson both caught four passes (Montgomery for 34 yards, Peterson for 49 yards).

The Rampage also scored a touchdown when DE Al Scott blocked a Diesel punt deep in Diesel territory and LB Marcus Wyche recovered the ball in the end zone. The lone Diesel score came late in the game when a Lockport pass was intercepted by a Diesel player and returned for a touchdown.

Southern Tier’s offense was stymied by a smothering Rampage defense, who held the Diesel to just 37 net yards (and 0.95 yards per play) while tallying six QB sacks on the day.  Linebacker Cliff McDowell practically lived in the Diesel backfield, accounting for seven tackles (three for a loss), a sack, and a QB hit. But he wasn’t the only one taking up residence there: Marcus Wyche finished the day with five tackles, two sacks, and three QB hits, and LB Isaiah Johnson added four tackles, two sacks, and another QB hit.  DT Ray Barker added four tackles (two for a loss), a half a sack, and a QB hit.  Tom Covey added six tackles and a tackle for a loss, with Safety Ron Dixon adding four tackles and a pass defensed.

Both teams will head their separate ways this week, with the Diesel set to take on the Nickel City Kings and the Rampage set to take on the Jamestown Chiefs. In two weeks, the Rampage and Diesel will square off again at Bradner Stadium in Olean.
