ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Purdy Road man reported Wednesday evening that he woke up to find his basement had been flooded with heating oil.
Patrol found between 40 and 50 gallons of heating oil on the basement floor. Patrol located where the oil leak came from, and it is a pipe that was bent in a downward angle.
The homeowner said the he had been having problems with the tenant, but the tenant said he had not been in the basement.
Patrol was advised by the health inspector that the residence will be closed to both the tenant and the home owners until the spill is cleaned up. The oil will need to be cleaned up by a clean up crew before any one is able to remain in the residence. Patrol spoke with Niagara County Hazmat crew who informed them that they would attempt to begin cleanup on the residence but he said that a clean up crew would need to be contacted to pump out the oil.
The homeowners informed patrol they would like the damage to the property to be reported for insurance purposes regarding the clean up fees and the damage to the basement regarding the oil spill.
Patrol stood by while the tenant removed his personal items from the residence for the time being.
