ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The Lockport Fire Department will hold a celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Outwater Park to commemorate the department’s 100th anniversary.
The "Community Day" will offer fire trucks on display, demonstrations for kids and adults alike, as well as a picnic. There will also be a huge slide shaped like a fire truck, and New York State Police will be there with a rollover simulator.
"In years' past, we've always held a firemen's ball," said Jim Scapelliti, one of the firemen organizing the event. "For 100 years, we wanted to do something a little different so we decided to move it to Outwater Park and have a family event."
The department also plans to hold a softball game open to anyone who wishes to play, Scapelliti said. Just bring a glove.
The city's paid fire department was founded in May 1914. Prior to that, it was a volunteer service.
