The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Erie and south central Niagara counties including the Lockport area.
The thunderstorm is capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour.
"This is a dangerous storm," the weather service states. "If you are in the path, prepare immediately for damaging winds and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning. People outside should move to shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows."
Originally forecast to last until 5:45 p.m., the warning has been extended through 6:30 p.m.
