game May 18. (ENP FILE PHOTOS BY HEATHER N. GRIMMER)
The Lockport Rampage's last two victories have not been what you would call typical. But wins are wins and the Rampage has yet to get anything but this season.

Going into their July 12 game against the Lyndonville Tigers, the team was 5-0 (4-0 in the Northeastern Football Alliance) and looking to roll over the Tigers, who were only 1-4 at the time. The Rampage won with no effort — literally. The team took a 2-0 victory by default over the Lyndonville team, who failed to show for the game.

Rampage players stuck around, however, to give their fans a show and make the best of the situation.  The offense and defense played each other in a seven-on-seven game for two 15-minute halves, which the referee crew was kind enough to officiate.

That made the Rampage 6-0 coming into Saturday's game against the Buffalo Gladiators. The game was to be played in Buffalo but a scheduling conflict moved the game to Outwater Park. As has been the case all season long, the Rampage looked solid on both sides of the ball, scoring some timely touchdowns while the defense held strong all night. Leading 30-14 in the fourth quarter, the Rampage were declared the victors when the refs called the game due to inappropriate behavior on the field.

The potential bad blood could spill over into this weekend's game with the two teams playing a rematch — again at Outwater Park's Exchange Field at 7 p.m.

So far this season, the Rampage have outscored their opponents 138-32 (if you include the two points from the Lyndonville game). The 14 points scored by the Buffalo Gladiators Saturday has been the most the defense has given up.

Nicholas Peterson catches six from Rampage quarterback Lamont Rhim in a
May 18 charity game against the Jamestown Chiefs. Rhim is third in the NFA
for passing yards.
Quarterback Lamont Rhim was the third-leading QB heading into this past Saturday's game, having thrown for 610 yards in six games — five really when you figure in the forfeit. Tewaine Panell leads the team in rushing with 220 yards. He's seventh in the league. And Darrell Keith's 182 yards is good enough to put him on the league leader board, as well. In terms of sacks, the Rampage defense dominates the league, having three players in the top seven of the league. David Gross leads the pack with 5.5 sacks, followed by Marcus Wyche and Ray Barker with 5 sacks a piece.

Following this Saturday's game against the Gladiators, the Rampage will face off against the also-undefeated Southern Tier Diesel, first at home on Aug. 2, then away on Aug. 16. In between those games, the Rampage will play the Jamestown Chiefs on Aug. 9. Lockport's semi-pro football team defeated Jamestown once already in the regular season 38-0, and once in a charity game 44-0.
