TOWN OF LOCKPORT — It's a beautiful day for 18 holes. And as of today, there's a new place in Lockport to play.

The miniature golf course at Allie Brandt Lanes opened at noon to sunny skies and happy families. The beautiful new course, designed by Harris Miniature of Golf of New Jersey — the number one manufacturer of mini golf courses in the world — offers fun and challenging holes for mini golfers of all ages.

Sarah and Lucy DesJardins of Lockport were one of the first in line to try out Lockport's newest entertainment option.

"I thought it was really great to come to on a Friday afternoon in the summer," Lucy said after finishing the course.

Sarah agreed, adding that it was nice to have something else to do in Lockport — especially with the golf course at Skateland being closed and its future up in the air.

Sarah said some holes were harder than others and particularly like the 16th, where players' golf ball jumps over the river running through the course. There's also a waterfall and a fountain on the course.

A unique feature of the course is a 30- by 50-foot deck, which overlooks it. It's adorned with tables and chairs so parents can sit and relax while kids play — or vice versa.

Brian Borowski, owner of Allie Brandt Lanes said he thinks the holes are fun and challenging at the same time.

He said the planning for the course stated in February. He got the certificate of occupancy on Thursday, allowing for today's opening.

Why mini golf?

"We just wanted to utilize the land and start the process of making this into a family entertainment center," Borowski said. "We figured miniagure golf was a perfect tie in for the summer months."

As for possible next steps in the "entertainment center" plans, Borowski said no concrete decisions have been made, but added "there's always plans for the future."

The course is open daily from noon to 11 p.m. It costs $7 for 18 holes of golf or $9 for those wanting to play the course twice.
