Sarah J. O'Connor
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Niagara County Sheriff's deputies charged a Lockport man with drug possession and a woman with endangering the welfare of a child during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

According to the report filed by NCSO, during a traffic stop that resulted in a Leandra's Law violation charge, patrol could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. Asking the vehicle's occupants if they had any marijuana, one of the passengers — Rico Vasquez, 20, 3435 Ewings Road said that there was a bag in his door. Patrol was also advised that there was a pipe used to smoke pot in the vehicle.

Patrol then searched the vehicle and found a jar containing marijuana and a second pipe for smoking marijuana. Vasquez stated that all of the marijuana in the vehicle belonged to him. He was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Royalton Court and is scheduled to appear on July 15.

Patrol also observed a young juvenile in the vehicle. Another passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Sarah J. O'Connor, 42 Harvey Ave., stated she was the juvenile's mother. She told patrol that while the other occupants were smoking marijuana in the vehicle, she took the juvenile away from the vehicle and only got back in the vehicle with the juvenile after they had finished smoking the marijuana. However, there was still a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle as well as the bag and jar of marijuana seized by patrol.

O'Connor was taken into custody for endangering the welfare of a child. The juvenile's grandmother was called and came to the scene to get the juvenile. Child Protective Services was contacted by patrol and notified of the incident. O'Connor was taken to the Town Of Royalton Court for arraignment. and then transported to the Niagara County Jail on $500 bail. She is scheduled to return to the Town of Royalton Court on July 10.
