A Middleport man was charged late Monday night with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on South Transit Street.
The driver, Matthew R. Gilbert, 19, 9008 Pearson Road, Middleport, was seen driving on Lincoln Avenue without a light on his license plate, according to a report filed by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. When patrol finally caught up to him in the City of Lockport, he appeared nervous and an odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.
Upon patrol asking Gilbert if there were any illegal drugs in the vehicle, he produced a small plastic bag and a blue glass pipe, both containing marijuana, from the center console of the vehicle.
Gilbert was given a ticket to appear before the Town of Lockport Court on July 1. The plastic bag and the blue glass pipe containing suspected marijuana were both secured by patrol and submitted to the NCSO Forensic Laboratory for confirmation of weight and substance.
