BUFFALO — Newfane resident Shannon Tierney was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities, during a ceremony in Canisius College’s Christ the King Chapel on April 30.

Tierney, class of 2015, is a junior biology/psychology major at Canisius College.

Students are nominated for induction based on their ideals of scholarship, loyalty and service. Prospective members must be a junior or senior with a minimum QPA of 3.5 and approved by three faculty committee members and the president of Canisius College.

Selection to Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors that can be given on a Jesuit campus. The society was founded in 1915 to honor a select number of students each year on the basis of scholarship, loyalty, and service. Inductees demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of and commitment to the ideals—intellectual, social, moral, and religious—of Jesuit higher education.

Canisius College is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation and the premier private university in Western New York.

East Niagara Post now publishes garage and yard sales.
