ENP STAFF REPORTS

NEWFANE — A 63-year-old Beebe Road woman needed 57 stitches on her right arm at Eastern Niagara Hospital-Newfane Monday afternoon after her neighbor's dog unexpectedly attacked her.
Upon being interviewed, the woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that she was talking with her neighbors in their back yard when the dog attacked her and bit her on the right arm. The dog was on a leash at the time but the neighbor was unable to get a secure grip on the leash, according to the incident report filed.
The neighbor, interviewed at his home, appeared very concerned for the victim. He admitted that his dog "JJ" attacked the woman for no apparent reason, adding that this is the first time his dog has ever attacked or bit a person. He was unable to locate the last rabies vaccination, but stated it was approximately two years ago at the Niagara County Fair Grounds.
The breed of the dog is unknown for sure, but possibly a mix of a Rottweiler/Shepard/Chow/Labrador. The dog is black and brown in color and is approximately 90 pounds. Patrol completed an Animal Bite Report, which will be forwarded to the Niagara County Health Department.
No charges were filed as of when the original report was filed, however several hours later the Sheriff's Office received a phone call stating that the dog was unsecured on its owner's property. The dog warden was notified and responded to remove the dog from the property.
