The Buffalo Bills announced this afternoon that Mary Wilson, wife of the franchise's founder Ralph Wilson, is now the controlling owner of the team.
The team said that Mrs. Wilson will establish a process to allow for the sale of the team at "an appropriate time." This process is to ensure that the sale complies with NFL rules, as well as standing agreements with Erie County and New York State.
"I have complete confidence in Russ Brandon, our President and CEO, to continue his duties of running the organization," Mary Wilson said via team press release. "General Manager Doug Whaley and Head Coach Doug Marrone remain empowered by Russ to run the football operation.”
Ralph Wilson died on March 25. Mary was his third wife, whom he married in 1999.
