The state’s private sector job count increased by 117,200 from February 2013 to February 2014. The economy added 12,800 private sector jobs in February 2014, bringing the state’s private sector job count to a record high of 7,543,100.
In the Buffalo-Niagara region, unemployment fell from 8.8 percent in February of 2013 to 7.6 percent this February.
Niagara County's unemployment rate for the month of February was 8.7 percent — down from 9.9 percent in February of 2013. There were 100,000 jobs in Niagara County in February, a .3 percent increase from a year ago when it was 99,800. And there were 9,500 people looking for jobs in February, compared to 10,900 a year ago.
The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of a telephone survey of 3,100 households (out of more than 7 million) in New York State.
