The Lockport City School District got only one offer on the proposed sale of the former Washington Hunt school building. Now it's up to district voters on whether to sell it.
Ultimate Physique, which is currently located on Ann Street, offered the district $65,000 for the old school building. The Lockport Board of Education approved the sale, pending voters sign off on it.
Washington Hunt, on the corner of Rogers Avenue and Union Street, has an appraised value of $195,000, but it is expected to need considerable work — over $1 million — before it can be used for anything. The school was closed at the end of the 2012-13 school year due to declining enrollment and maintenance costs . because the district could no longer afford the maintenance.
School district residents will vote up or down on the sale on May 20 when they also vote on the district budget.
