COURTESY OF TRANSIT DRIVE-IN THEATER - A new  marquee will
be installed at the drive-in later this month. It is one of many upgrades
planned for the drive-in this season. The drive-in is showing movies on all
four screens this weekend.
After a damp and cold weekend last weekend, Transit Drive-In Theater owner Rick Cohen is looking forward to a better forecast for the coming weekend.

With temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s, Cohen decided to open all four of the drive-in's screens Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"The weather is finally starting to feel like spring," he said.

Given the poor weather this past weekend, Cohen was impressed with the showing.

"Saturday was 25 degrees and there was a wind advisory so I thought the turnout was great," he said.

Last week's top movie in America is likely to still be the big draw this weekend. In fact, "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier" will be shown on two screens.

Movie pairings are "Captain America 2" with "Need for Speed" on Screen 1, Disney's "Frozen" with "Captain America 2" on Screen 2, "Divergent" with "Non-Stop" on Screen 3 and "Rio 2" with "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" on Screen 4.

Gates open at 7 p.m. with the first movies starting at 8:15 or 8:30.

Getting ready for the season required some repairs to Screen 1. And more upgrades are coming, Cohen said.

"Big project we're working on is reconditioning all the screen towers. ... it would entail wire brushing the structured steel, priming and re-coating. And in some cases we might be replacing the I-beams. ... The main screen is 40 years old this year. And that's the one that will require the most work. The other ones aren't nearly as old."

The drive-in is also getting a new marquee this year. It's expected to be installed by the end of the month. The old one was damaged last year when a car crashed into it.
