After falling behind 3-0 in the first period, the Buffalo Sabres tightened up their defense and found a little offense, but still lost 3-2.
Detroit's Darren Helm scored the first goal of the game, his 11th of the season, at 5:47 of the first period. Tomas Jurco made it 2-0 at 14:12 when he tipped in a shot by Danny DeKeyser. And Daniel Alfredsson put the Red Wings up 3-0 with a wrist shot at 15:28.
The Sabres cut into the Red Wings lead with a power play goal by Jamie McBain at 12:28 of the second period. Nicolas Deslauriers brought the Sabres to within one with a goal at 6:40 of the third period. But that was the end of the scoring.
With the loss, the Sabres are now 21-48-8 on the season.
