Despite scoring the first goal, the Buffalo Sabres dropped their seventh straight game, falling 3-1 to the Calgary Flames in Calgary tonight.
Sabres goaltender Nathan Lieuwen stopped 23 of 26 Calgary shots in the loss.
Drew Stafford opened the scoring for the blue and gold, sneaking in a wrap-around at 13:22 of the first period. It was Stafford's 14th goal in 60 games this season.
Calgary tied the game with just over a minute to go in the second on a Joe Colborne wrist shot. Mike Cammalleri made it 2-1 Flames 9:16 into the third period. Paul Byron closed out the scoring with a short-handed goal with 6:33 to go in the game.
The Sabres are now 19-42-8. Their next game is Thursday in Edmonton, the second of a five-game road trip.
