The Niagara Wine Trail added a 20th winery to kick off 2014.
The newest member is Schwenk Wine Cellars, located in the Orleans County town of Kent. Although the winery is a newcomer to the Niagara Wine Trail, they originally opened for business in 1983.
Schwenk Wine Cellars blends their family-grown grapes and other fruits into heirloom recipe wines that are bottled on premises. In the vineyards, grapes are grown such as Cayuga, Baco, Concord, and others on their farm in Orleans County.
Schwenk offers travelers on the Niagara Wine Trail the chance to taste award-winning wines such as their Dry Riesling, Baco Noir, Stone Bottom Cayuga, and a holiday favorite called “Santa’s Secret,” among others.
Their tasting room is open year round for wine tasting with weekend hours from January through March and more expansive hours during the warmer months. An expansion of the current tasting room is planned to accommodate larger groups and events this coming year.
The Niagara Wine Trail has included wineries throughout Northern Niagara County since 2002. Legislation signed in 2013 allowed the trail to expand eastward into Orleans and Monroe counties. It now runs from Sanborn to the Monroe County village of Hilton.
