The New York Lottery announced the launch of its new Silver Spectacular game, the first ever $25 scratch-off game offered in the history of the New York Lottery offering a potential $7.5 million prize.
Gardner Gurney, acting director of the state lottery, said, “We believe our current players and perhaps some new Lottery players will want to get in on the excitement of a chance to win such a spectacular, life-changing cash prize.”
The game launched statewide on Jan. 7.
According to lottery officials, scratch-off games account for more than 50 percent of overall sales of New York Lottery games.
The New York Lottery is the nation's largest and most profitable lottery, contributing $3.04 billion in fiscal year 2012-2013 to help support education in the state. It accounts for 15 percent of total state education aid to local school districts, distributed according to a formula devised by the state, taking into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of lottery school funding.
